Improved degradability and mechanical properties of bacterial cellulose grafted with PEG derivatives

Abstract New functional materials based on bacterial cellulose (BC) grafted with poly(ethylene glycol) PEG derivatives for food packaging applications and a facile method assessing the degradation rates of final are presented. Two types were obtained by grafting BC films (BCF), respectively lyophilized pellicles (BCL) three different molecular weights through radical polymerization. The polymer characterized SEM, FT-IR, contact angle measurements, TGA. Tensile tests DMA analysis used to compare two in terms shear-modulus, tensile strength performance giving suitable information applications. A new evaluation method, that we propose herein, offers quantitative about process contrast SEM analysis, primarily literature, which is not decisive all cases because it characterizes only small parts sample. evidenced higher weight surface BCF led an acceleration compared pristine samples. good correlation was between samples analyzed after their mathematically determined.
